Week 4

  1. Describe your experience. Did you find it beneficial? Difficult? Why or why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or why not?
I found the exercise to be quite relaxing and helpful even when allowing loving kindness to flow to my enemies. This part especially feels healing and after doing this, I feel unaffected by stressful situations (at least for a little while).

  1. What is the concept of "mental workout"? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a mental workout? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health?
Mental workout is a term used for a disciplined meditation that we intentionally do everyday for the improvement of our wellbeing.

  1. Christan,
It sounds like you really enjoyed this weeks relaxation exercise and that you walked away from it with a positive experience. That is great that you feel unaffected by most stressful situations and wish I were more like that!!

  2. I think you're lucky. I tried the whole loving kindness thing when I was relaxed and failed at it miserably. I noticed, at the time, that I had a lot of energy and as a result, could not focus on the exercise alone and allowed my mind to wander more than it should of. A few days later I tried again when I was dog tired and things started to come much simpler. I wonder if this is just a sign that we're a lot more passive and accepting of things when we don't have the energy to control them.
